Circular Economy Club (CEC) Mentors Program Experiencing Rapid Growth

A group of enthusiastic people all around the world found together and formed the Circular Economy Club, a global non-profit voluntary organisation. The club connects professionals by organising circular economy events in various cities or providing a mentorship programme with senior professionals offering free advice on implementing circular economy strategy. Learn more about Circular Economy Club (CEC) Mentors Program in our guest blog.

The Circular Economy Club (CEC) Mentors Program was launched in 2017 with a clear mission: to connect senior CEC members who have demonstrated experience implementing circularity with individuals and organizations who can benefit from this professional knowledge.

CEC Mentors Program Coordinator Sarah Bishop said the program is critical as implementation of circular economy continues to unfold around the world.

“The circular economy is still a nascent field, which means it's sometimes difficult to find the right solutions to the challenges of implementing circularity,” Bishop said. “Mentoring strengthens the skills of the individuals who are working hard to transform our economy from linear to circular and it connects people to further the movement as a whole.”

Bishop outlined a few key components of the CEC Mentors Program.

About the mentors:

  • Mentors have seven-plus years of experience working in the circular economy
  • Mentors are from all over the world and speak more than 10 different languages
  • Thus far in 2018, CEC mentors have volunteered nearly 200 hours

For mentees:

  • Mentees are typically young professionals, entrepreneurs, or postgraduate students facing a specific circular economy challenge
  • They apply online to get advice from a CEC mentor to address the challenge
  • Applications are then screened by the CEC to ensure an appropriate fit

The program already has 25 committed mentors and Bishop said the program’s rapid growth isn’t surprising.

“Like most people who are growing their knowledge of the circular economy, I wanted to learn more about where my skills and my projects match specific career paths in the field and how to best approach my next steps,” Bishop said. “What better way than to work with a variety of experts who have all taken different paths toward making a big impact in the circular economy?”
