The partnership between Landbell Group and CARBIOS marks a significant milestone in advancing PET recycling technologies. By combining expertise, innovation, and a shared commitment to sustainability, the collaboration aims to drive meaningful progress towards a more circular and environmentally responsible approach to plastic waste management.
Landbell Group and CARBIOS forged a strategic partnership aimed at revolutionizing PET recycling processes. The collaboration, announced on February 29, 2024, emphasizes both companies´ commitment to leveraging innovation for sustainable solutions in plastic waste management.
The agreement between Landbell Group, a global operator of producer responsibility organizations (PROs), and CARBIOS, a leader in biological technologies for plastic and textile recycling, focuses on developing and implementing advanced solutions for the enzymatic recycling of post-consumer PET waste.
Through this collaboration, Landbell Group will play a pivotal role in supplying PET flakes—essential feedstock for CARBIOS´ bio recycling process. Leveraging Landbell Group´s expertise and extensive network in PET waste sourcing, the partnership aims to ensure a steady supply chain for sustainable PET production.
This steady supply of PET flakes will contribute 15,000 tons per year to CARBIOS´ sourcing roadmap for its first commercial plant, significantly advancing its goal of achieving a circular economy for plastics.
One of the key advantages of CARBIOS´ enzymatic recycling is its significant environmental benefits. Recent life-cycle analyses reveal a remarkable 57% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to virgin plastic production. Additionally, for every ton of recycled PET produced, 1.3 tons of oil are saved, highlighting the sustainability advantages of this innovative approach.
The geographical positioning of CARBIOS´ in Longlaville, France, strategically aligns with nearby waste supplies from Belgium, Germany, and Luxembourg. This strategic location enhances the plant´s accessibility to waste sources, facilitating efficient material procurement for recycling operations.
Furthermore, the collaboration with CARBIOS enables Landbell Group to redirect problematic PET fractions, such as multilayered and coloured trays from packaging waste, and polyester textile waste, towards recycling. By doing so, Landbell Group reinforces its commitment to developing innovative recycling solutions that contribute to a circular economy.
