Kathrin, what do you like about working for the Green Alley Award?

Transforming the linear into a circular economy is such an important step in fighting the global climate crisis and all the problems related to it. I really enjoy being close to the most recent innovations within the circular economy. It is inspiring to see what ideas startups came and come up with. And of course, I am already looking forward to the big award ceremony in Berlin in April 2022!

Which startup that ever applied for the Green Alley Award is your favorite and why?

This is really hard to say. I am amazed by all the different degradable plastic alternatives and think they all contribute equally to solving the problem we have with plastic pollution. However, shortly before joining Landbell Group I watched a documentary on the textile industry and how damaging and environmentally harmful it still is. Therefore, I was really convinced about last year’s finalist “Kleiderly”. I think it is awesome that they make fashion industry more sustainable by recycling old clothes and thereby extend their life cycles and contribute to less pollution and waste of resources.

How do you live the circular economy?

I am separating waste and avoiding disposable plastics, by using my reusable water bottle, for instance. To avoid plastic packaging, I sometimes go to the local “farmers” markets or to “Unverpacktläden” instead of to the supermarket where everything is wrapped in plastic. I’m also working on my online shopping habits and not ordering online as often anymore. Instead, I am trying to buy more clothes secondhand or from sustainable brands.
