The Green Alley Award is here to foster and promote a variety of new business ideas in this field. Adaptavate receives £2 million in investment

Great News from Adaptavate, our Green Alley Award Winner 2015, that raised £2m to develop and industrialise carbon negative construction materials globally. The investment was led by Counteract, with the participation of Low Carbon Innovation Fund 2 (LCIF2) SEMIN, Perivoli Innovations, and other industry experts, to accelerate the ongoing development. This is an important step as the team plans to accelerate their work to develop and manufacture carbon negative construction materials at a global scale, with a key focus on one of the world’s most used construction materials: wallboard, and associated products. Adaptavate will expedite their work on carbon negative formulations and carbon capture processes for developing and industrialising drop-in, high-performing and carbon negative alternatives to the most widely used construction materials.

Flexi-Hex welcomes a new business partner

Flexi-Hex, our Green Alley Award 2022 Finalist, started a new partnership with Orora which will bring 100% recycled fibre protective packaging to North America. Orora, which has 70 locations, is currently the only North American distributor of Flexi-Hex products: The company’s role is to find the best new sustainable packaging technologies, test them and either manufacture or distribute them, said Cory Connors, Orora’s director of sustainable packaging. According to Cory Connor Flexi-Hex offers products that are unique because they are fibre-based substitutes for commonly used plastic-based protective packaging like foam packing peanuts or air-filled plastic cushions. Two lines of Flexi-Hex products will be available: one made from 100% recycled paper and a lighter option made from 100% recycled tissue paper.

Mimica starts partnership with GreenLight

Mimica, our Green Alley Award 2021 Finalist, announced a new collaboration and partnership with GreenLight Consulting to combine Greenlight Consulting’s Digital Transformation services with Mimica’s industry leading Task Mining products. This collaboration offers a data-driven solution that empowers businesses to make informed decisions, support successful transformations, and lay the foundation for automation and future growth. On the one hand, for GreeLight Consulting, partnering with Mimica will give them the ability to provide a unique solution for customers, plus simple, effective, and data-driven way to capture and assess existing business processes that provides a foundation for automation and transformation while leveraging AI. On the other hand, Greenlight Consulting shares Mimica belief on the transformation of the automation system.

Sulapac collaborates with APG Europe

Sulapac, our Green Alley Award 2017 Winner, started a new collaboration with APG Europe, the distributor of innovative & sustainable packaging for the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. APG Europe is the first online distributor of Sulapac packaging: with this new partnership they aim to serve smaller brands and to provide extended services such as decorations and logistic. APG Europe’s Sulapac online store will offer a wide range of products including ready-made jars for water-based cosmetics and for oil-based formulas. Moreover, some of Sulpac´s packaging was particularly designed for supplements and dry foods in various colours and sizes inspired by Nordic nature. Lastly, Sulapac materials used in the packaging are bio-based, some up to 100%, have low carbon footprint and are recyclable by design.

TrusTrace pilots digital product passports

TrusTrace, our Green Alley Award Finalist 2021, announced its participation in the Trace4Value project, where TrusTrace will pilot a solution for the Digital Product Passport (DPP) to enable sustainability through transparency. The project will be in line with the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles which will be mandatory on textiles sold in Europe by 2030. Their main goal is to encourage sustainable production, enable the transition to a circular economy, and help consumers make more sustainable choices. This project was partially funded by Vinnova, and coordinated by RISE Research Institute of Sweden and the partners are numerous, including also Aalto University. The broader Trace4Value project will cover more than 65 partners, focusing on traceability and data-sharing across various industries.

Voltfang launches new product to the market

It has been a great summer for our 2022 Winner Voltfang! First, the team launched a new product: an outdoor battery storage system developed from requalified EV batteries. This new battery storage system is ideal for applications such as charging stations and infrastructure projects with limited space requirements and can be used during hot summer or cold winters days. Secondly, they expanded financially thanks to their seed round with notable private investors and existing investors, including PT1, AENU, Helen Ventures, Aurum Impact, and others. This expansion of the financing round underlines the importance of having local strategy. Lastly, collaborating with MacDonalds in Portugal! This means that the branch in Pombal will be less dependent on rising energy prices and possible supply bottlenecks.
