Start of the 20/21 Green Alley Award

Good news for the startup community: The Green Alley Award team has just kicked off the seventh Green Alley Award! Once again, we are looking for innovative ideas in waste prevention, recycling and digital solutions to ultimately turn our linear into a circular economy!

Green Alley Award application phase now open

Watch out circular economy startups! The Green Alley Award, the first European startup prize for the circular economy is back for its seventh year. After the unfortunate postponement due to the Covid-19 pandemic earlier this year, we are looking again for circular economy enthusiasts. Do you want to put a stop to the linear economy with its “take, make, dispose” principle? We welcome startups in their early and growth stages no older than 5 years. Your business based in Europe should engage in waste prevention, recycling or digital technologies.

What to do and when

The Green Alley Award application phase starts on 8 September and ends on 17 November. Simply visit green-alley-award.com and upload your pitch deck. To maximize your chances, make sure your pitch deck follows our guidelines. A pre-selected number of startups will be put on our website for a public vote. The startup with the majority of the votes will be automatically amongst the six finalists. The remaining five will be selected by our expert committee. On 22 April 2021 the six finalists will be invited to Berlin, where they will meet circular economy and startup experts in working sessions. In the evening each of the finalists will have the chance to pitch their idea live on stage. An international jury elects the winner who will receive 25.000 Euros.

Success stories

The Green Alley Award was initiated in 2014. Since then we celebrated eight successful winners. Amongst them Repack, a Finnish startup which has invented reusable packaging for e-commerce. You might have come across that name, because Repack has recently done a test run with fashion giant Zalando. Another successful winner also from Finland is Sulapac. CEO Suvi Haimi and CCO Laura Tirkkonen-Rajasalo came up with the excellent idea of substituting plastic packaging, e.g for cosmetics with 100% biodegradable and microplastic-free products made from wood and plant-based binders. If you are a fan of Chanel, you might soon find their products in Sulapac packaging. Last year Gelatex Technologies from Estonia convinced our jury with their Gelatin-based alternative to leather, we’re sure to hear a lot about them this year. Do you also want to have a spot in the Green Alley Award hall of fame? Don’t miss our deadline, we can’t wait to hear all about your idea!
