Green Alley Award application phase for 2020 is open

Green Alley Award application phase now open

Watch out circular economy startups! The Green Alley Award, the first European startup prize for the circular economy is back for its seventh year. Once again we are looking for circular economy enthusiasts who want to put a stop to the linear economy with its “take, make, dispose” principle. Does that speak to you? We welcome startups in their early and growth stages no older than 5 years. Your business based in Europe should engage in waste prevention, recycling or digital technologies.

Green Alley Award application phase

The Green Alley Award application phase starts on 10 March and ends on 10 June. Applications must include a pitch deck explaining your idea in detail. You can  maximize your chances by following our  guidelines. A pre-selected number of startups will be put on our website for a public vote. The startup with the majority of the votes will be automatically among the six finalists. The remaining five will be selected by our expert committee. The six lucky finalists will meet with circular economy and startup experts for working sessions in Berlin. In the evening each of the finalists will pitch their idea live on stage. An international jury elects the winner who will receive 25.000 Euros.

Success stories

The Green Alley Award was initiated in 2014. Since then we celebrated eight successful winners. Among them RePack, a Finnish startup which has invented reusable packaging for e-commerce. That name rings a bell? RePack has recently done a test run with fashion giant Zalando. Another successful winner also from Finland is Sulapac. CEO Suvi Haimi and CCO Laura Tirkkonen-Rajasalo came up with the excellent idea of substituting plastic packaging for cosmetics. Their sustainable alternative is 100% biodegradable and microplastic-free made from wood and plant-based binders.

If you are a fan of Chanel, you might soon find their products in Sulapac packaging. Last year Gelatex Technologies from Estonia convinced our jury with their Gelatin-based alternative to leather. We’re sure to hear a lot about them this year. Do you also want to have a spot in the Green Alley Award hall of fame? Don’t miss our deadline on 10 June 2020, we can’t wait to hear all about your idea!
