The Green Alley Award Week – It’s MIWA Monday

A whole week full of news, insights and circular ideas - starting with....MIWA Monday!

Starting today, every day of the week we'll give you interesting insights into the startups and the circular topics of the Green Alley Award.

It’s MIWA Monday!

If you want to find out what that means, keep on reading!

MIWA is a Czech startup founded in 2015 and was one of our Green Alley Award finalists in 2018 together with Aeropowder, Circular IQ, ecoplasteam, refurbed and Superseven. The name MIWA is an abbreviation and stands for MInimum Waste, which already says a lot about the purpose of the company:

MIWA’s solution tackles worldwide plastic pollutions and the huge amounts of packaging waste in the food industry. Their system is based on reusable capsules. Customers can either go to a store that has implemented MIWA products and fill the capsules with the product they want or get them delivered. Sounds familiar?

At first sight MIWA appears to be similar to the everyday zero waste shop. What distinguishes them though is the service they provide to their customers and the fact that their solution includes the entire supply chain.

Here are the main benefits of MIWA over zero waste shops:

  • Focus on the whole supply chain (end consumer as well as production materials and transport packaging)
  • Easy integration into current supply chain
  • Mobile application for easy measurement of exact quantities, home delivery, further information and nice recipes
  • Higher level of comfort
  • Higher hygiene level and better quality

Petr Báča the founder and CEO of MIWA got inspired by his children, who made him more sensitive to sustainability issues and by his professional background in the packaging design industry and the realization of how much waste is generated by the usage of single use packaging. MIWA is Petrs contribution to a more circular economy: “MIWA is an innovative project with large ambitions when it comes to environmental impact. This is both challenging and motivating for me as well as for the whole team. We are building a better future.“

We also strongly believe that MIWA and other former Green Alley Award finalists and winners bring us closer to this better future. We are already curious to get to know this year’s finalists!
